Program Eligibility Application Kit Available

Posted on November 12, 2009

The Program Eligibility Application Kit, or PEAK, is up and running. This is a self-service, interactive Web site that 1) allows potential applicants the ability to check for possible eligibility for food assistance, cash assistance, and medical assistance through the “Am I Eligible” function, and 2) allows existing clients to check the status of their benefits through the “Check My Benefits” function. The site is in English and Spanish.

My 37 yr. old son is in the mental health care system in TX and has been for about 15 yrs. His caregiver died recently there and he has no family or friends so I want him (and he does also) to move to Colorado Springs to be near me so I can transport him, support him emotionally, etc. I’m almost 63 yrs. old and helping him long distance is very stressful on me emotionally and financially. He is on Medicaid in TX, SSI disability and gets food stamps. I am looking for the same services here for him. He also attends a clinic under Medicaid that provides him with a psychiatrist and medical support such as a monthly blood test for his medication for schizophrenia–clozaril, which works better than any other medication for him. Since he can only be perscribed enough meds for 30 days due to the blood test requirement, how can we get assistance for more medications when he moves here immediately since he deteroriates very rapidly when without meds? How do we get him medicaid, housing assistance and food stamps? Thank you for your assistance.

If he has medicaid benefits, contact Pikes Peak Behavioral Health group or Medicaid. You can google either for more details.Cheryl Baeza

Hi Jonell, I saw this post with your name on it, and immediately recognized your name as being one on my contact list, because you had signed up to take the Family to Family Education Program that I co-teach. I tried to reach you on several occasions, but never received a return call. I just want to encourage you to sign up to take this class next semester. The free education and information that you will receive is absolutely amazing and empowering. Even if your son were not moving here, this class would be of great help to you. Since he is planning to move here, it will help you all the more! You will be so glad, as thousands have been, to have taken this class.
