Sharing stories. Spreading hope.
At NAMI Colorado Springs, we want to lift up voices in our community for three big reasons:
- Your story matters. Your voice deserves to be honored and elevated.
- Stories help people learn, and more local people need to learn about NAMI.
- People are more likely to reach out for help when they see their own experiences reflected within the NAMI community.
We would love to support you in sharing your story in a variety of new ways.
Storytelling options
1. Share what’s on your heart
Submit a thought — even just a sentence or two — about belonging, connection, mental health or your NAMI experience.
Some starting points:
- To me, belonging is …
- I wish I knew about NAMI when …
- The moment that changed things for me was …
- Three things I’ve learned at NAMI are …
- When I was young, mental health was …
Your words may be shared on our blog, social media, or in materials that help us expand our impact. You’re always welcome to remain anonymous.
2. Contribute to topics you care about
In 2026, our core message is belonging. We’ll be exploring topics such as:
- Art as healing
- Military appreciation
- LGBTQIA2+ mental health
We aim to center lived experience alongside information and resources. Connect with us to explore topics you’d be open to speaking about, or suggest your own.
3. Be featured in a written profile (or write your own)
Mental health journeys can feel isolating — but connection changes that. We’d love to highlight your story just for your NAMI experience, but for who you are as a whole person: parent, professional, artist, leader, friend, and more.
Profiles can be interview-based or written in your own voice.
4. Share your story through video
A simple, 15-minute Zoom conversation can be incredibly powerful. It can stand alone or be edited into shorter clips for broader reach.
No production experience needed — we’ll guide you through the process and shape it together.
5. Share with your own community
Word of mouth has always been one of the most powerful ways people find NAMI.
- Send a text or email to someone who might benefit
- Share on LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, or Reddit
- Start a conversation with friends or family
Your voice can open the door for someone else.
6. Explore your own path
If you have ideas beyond what’s listed here, we’d love to hear them. They could include:
- Workplace connections: Help bring mental health conversations into your workplace by connecting us with leaders, HR teams, or wellness groups.
- Local media: Interested in writing an opinion piece or letter? We can support with information and guidance.
- Community groups: If you’re part of a club, place of worship, or organization, we’d love to connect and share resources.
What participating looks like
The NAMI storytelling team includes a small group that’s dedicated to supporting our communications and programs. We’re committed to ensuring you feel supported throughout the process.
When you raise your hand to volunteer — either by sending us an email or filling out a form on our website — here’s what will happen:
- A NAMI team member will connect with you personally
- We’ll discuss your comfort level, boundaries, and goals
- We’ll communicate clearly about where and how your story will be used
- We can help shape, edit, or guide your story if you’d like support
- You’ll always review and approve the final version before it’s shared
[callout] You are always in control of your story. You can choose what to share, how to share it, and whether to remain anonymous. You’ll also be invited to review and approve anything before it is shared publicly.
Not sure where to start?
We always like to suggest storytelling starts with defining your “why.” For example: Why do I want to tell my story? Who could it help? What feels meaningful for me right now?
Answering those questions can make sharing your story easier and more impactful.
