About In Our Own Voice
In Our Own Voice presentations feature people with mental health conditions sharing their personal stories in a free, 90-minute presentation. The goal is to change attitudes, assumptions and stereotypes by describing the reality of living with mental illness — to add a critical perspective to the popular understanding of what people with mental illness are like.
In Our Own Voice presentations humanize a misunderstood topic by demonstrating that it’s possible — and common — to live well with a mental illness. Attendees have a chance to ask presenters questions about mental illness in a space designed for that kind of exchange.
